Archetype Entertainment has just dropped the first look at gameplay for its new sci-fi RPG called Exodus. Fans have been buzzing since it was first shown off at last year’s Game Awards. The kicker? Matthew McConaughey is lending his voice for the first time in a video game.
A whole year later, we finally get to see what the game is about through a new gameplay trailer. And let me tell you, it’s got some wild stuff. You'll find alien planets, space shooting from a third-person view, and even a bear that looks super angry. Yeah, it’s got that going for it!
From what we’ve seen so far, it’s shaping up to be like Mass Effect, but with a new twist for the current gaming systems. You can tell there’s a strong focus on shooting, a sci-fi look, and a good story, which all scream Mass Effect vibes.
It's no wonder that it feels this way. The folks behind this game are experienced. Archetype Entertainment was co-founded by James Ohlen and Chad Robertson, both of whom have a history at BioWare. Ohlen worked on classics like Baldur’s Gate, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Dragon Age: Origins. Robertson was involved with Anthem. So, there's some serious talent behind this project.

Wizards of the Coast will be publishing the game, and they shared some juicy details during a livestream after the trailer dropped. Ohlen and Robertson spoke more about the world of Exodus.
The setting is pretty fascinating. It takes place in a world where people have left Earth behind. Humanity has made its way to new star systems and built advanced societies. There are even genetically modified creatures running around. That explains that angry bear we saw!
But it’s not all rainbows and moonbeams. There’s competition among the human colonies. So players will have to deal with different relationships and alliances. It sounds like navigating through this universe won't be a walk in the park.
One interesting element in the game is called Livestone. It’s a mix of minerals and plants that can be controlled by certain humans. I bet the player character is one of those lucky ones who gets to mess with it.
Then there's time dilation. This means that time moves at different speeds in different parts of the universe. So when you’re off making choices about your journey, your home world could change a lot by the time you get back. What might feel like just weeks for you could mean big changes for everyone back home.
When you take on missions, you’ll have two companions by your side. And, of course, there will be romance options to explore. Who doesn’t love a little bit of that spice?
As for Matthew McConaughey’s role in all of this? We don’t know yet. So that remains a mystery!
If you’re done playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard and are craving some space adventures, Exodus is definitely something to keep an eye on. Sadly, we don’t have a release date yet, but there’s a themed episode in Amazon’s Secret Level series that you can check out to hold you over.
What about the next Mass Effect? Project director Michael Gamble mentioned that it’s not going to have the same style as the newer Dragon Age games. He promises that Mass Effect will stick with a photorealistic look. That’s the plan, as long as he's in charge!
